is what makes a canalpost mailbox unique
So far so good. You now have a fixed, UK street address for official, financial and personal correspondence and all of your on-line shopping. Your letters and parcels are being signed for on your behalf and stored securely in our Mail Centre ready to be forwarded, but the question remains; how do we get the post to you when you didn't have an address in the first place?
you simply pick it up
from the most convenient post office!
As always, you can have your post forwarded to any address in the UK; to a relative or friend's house for example. But did you know that you can now have your mail delivered to a Post Office of your choice, for collection in person? And the service is completely free.
Using your secure control panel, tell us when and how to forward your mail (by 1st Class post, signed-for or private courier) and we'll consolidate all of your letters into a single tamper proof postal bag, then sent them to your chosen Post Office for you to pick up, and all you pay is the onward postage, at cost!
setting up poste restante
It couldn't be easier. Pop into any local Post Office, tell them that you are travelling and would like to have your mail sent to their premises for you to collect. :o) The Post Office will then give you their postal address and you use it as your forwarding address, remembering to tick the 'Poste Restante' box so that we can correctly format the postage label.
The Poste Restante service can be used for up to three months at the same post office, so it's also suitable for your winter mooring location. If you are going to be moored for longer than this, there is almost always more than one Post Office within easy reach, you simply switch between them after a few weeks!
Visit the Post Office website and learn more about their Poste Restante service.
collection is free
but remember to take some ID
You can pick up your mail at any time during the normal business hours of your chosen Post Office, including the weekends if they are open. Just ask at the counter and be sure to have some form of ID with you; a driving licence, bill or payment card is usually fine, but each individual Post Office will advise you when you set-up the service.
make canalpost your shopping partner!
Canalpost is not just for letters. Parcels up to 20kg in weight (the Royal Mail 'Medium Parcel' format) are included in your standard mailbox service, making canalpost perfect for shopping on-line in the UK. For more detailed definitions, you may like to review our simple mail size and weight guide.
oversized or overweight parcels
Parcels over this maximum weight or size limit will not be rejected. They will be processed and sent on independently of your normal forwarding, by courier, and will attract a small surcharge for the necessary manual handling.
We will inform you if a large parcel is despatched and we suggest that you alert your Poste Restante to expect it!
